Problem
Practical checks for power outage recovery. Follow the safe steps below and contact your support team if the issue continues.
These are general troubleshooting checks, not a confirmed diagnosis. Follow your organization's procedures and stop if a step could risk data, safety, or managed equipment.
Symptoms to check
- Devices shut down unexpectedly, power returns intermittently, or equipment does not restart cleanly.
- The issue may affect a single workstation, a circuit, or a whole office area after a power event.
Possible causes
- A utility outage, surge event, unstable power source, or UPS issue may leave devices in an unsafe state.
- Damaged power strips, cable wear, or unstable sockets can prevent full recovery.
Resolution
- Check whether power is stable at the wall outlet, UPS, or power strip. Confirm no breaker has tripped or any equipment shows a fault light.
- Inspect cables and surge protection devices for damage before reconnecting equipment. If any component smells burnt, feels hot, or shows sparks, stop and report it.
- Power on devices one at a time starting with the network equipment, then the workstation, and only after the power is stable. Do not reconnect too many devices at once.
- Verify important devices are not corrupted by an incomplete shutdown. Run a quick health check and confirm backups were completed before the outage.
- If several devices failed together, record the affected area, outage timing, and any UPS or breaker status, then escalate to support or facilities for assessment.
Prevention and preparation
- Use surge protection, UPS backup where available, and routine electrical safety checks.
- Keep a documented recovery checklist for after a power outage.
