Problem

Practical checks for device onboarding and setup. Follow the safe steps below and contact your support team if the issue continues.

These are general troubleshooting checks, not a confirmed diagnosis. Follow your organization's procedures and stop if a step could risk data, safety, or managed equipment.

Symptoms to check

  • A new device is not ready for use, not recognized, or missing required settings.
  • The problem may affect one user or multiple users receiving newly issued equipment.

Possible causes

  • Missing drivers, incomplete setup steps, or a wrong user account can prevent the device from being fully configured.
  • Network restrictions, image issues, or policy settings may stop deployment.

Resolution

  1. Confirm the device is assigned to the correct user and matches the approved hardware model and asset record.
  2. Check the charger, port, display, keyboard, and network connection. Verify the laptop or desktop can power on and connect to the organization’s approved network.
  3. Install or verify required drivers, security software, and business applications from approved sources. Do not use unapproved installers or personal devices for company setup.
  4. Complete the account sign-in, MFA, and policy enrollment steps required by the organization. If a device is not joining the correct domain or network, review the registration and image process.
  5. Test the main business functions such as email, VPN, file access, and printer access before marking the device ready for use. Log any failures with screenshots and exact error text.

Prevention and preparation

  • Keep a standard onboarding checklist for each device model.
  • Verify required drivers, apps, and security policies before handing the device to the user.
