Problem
Practical checks for mobile hotspot not working. Follow the safe steps below and contact your support team if the issue continues.
These are general troubleshooting checks, not a confirmed diagnosis. Follow your organization's procedures and stop if a step could risk data, safety, or managed equipment.
Symptoms to check
- Connected devices cannot reach the internet or cannot find the hotspot network.
- The issue may affect one device or several clients trying to share the same mobile connection.
Possible causes
- Mobile data is unavailable, the hotspot is disabled, or the device requires a quick reset.
- Incorrect network settings, low signal strength, or account restrictions can stop sharing.
Resolution
- Confirm the mobile device has cellular data, a good signal, and no data limit or account restriction blocking hotspot use.
- Turn the hotspot off and on, then verify the network name and password are correct. Forget the hotspot on the client device and reconnect using the current credentials.
- Check the device’s battery saver, airplane mode, and SIM status. Some devices automatically disable hotspot when the connection is weak or power-saving mode is active.
- If the problem affects only one device, test another device or restart the client and the host phone. If the problem affects all devices, contact the carrier or support team.
- Capture signal strength, phone model, and any error message before escalating so the support team can verify the carrier and device status.
Prevention and preparation
- Use the recommended hotspot password and keep the mobile device updated.
- Monitor data usage and avoid public hotspots when handling sensitive work unless the organization approves them.
